Hoarder cleanouts
done with discretion.
We empty hoarder homes across Oneida County with judgment-free crews, written flat-rate quotes, and a sort-as-we-go process that returns every valuable to the family. No biohazard work. No surprises mid-job. No neighbor conversations.

Everything you need to know before you call.

What we take
on a hoarder
cleanout.
Most hoarder cleanouts in Utica come down to the same categories of accumulated items, even when the volume is overwhelming. Our crew sorts as we go, sets valuables aside for the family, and removes everything else in one engagement. We handle the full household:
- Paper accumulation — mail, newspapers, magazines, packaging
- Expired food and pantry items in sealed containers
- Clothing, linens, and textiles — donated when reusable
- Broken or unwanted furniture — couches, mattresses, dressers
- Appliances — EPA-certified refrigerant handling on fridges
- Electronics and e-waste — TVs, computers, monitors, cables
- Books, media, and collectibles — checked for value first
- Kitchenware and household goods — pots, dishes, decor
- General trash, packaging, and dry household debris
- Yard waste and outdoor accumulation if part of the property
We bring our own dollies, hand trucks, contractor bags, blanket pads, and a 14-foot trailer. Severe whole-home jobs use a second truck and trailer running in parallel so the crew is never blocked waiting on a transfer-station run.
What we do NOT handle on a hoarder cleanout: biohazard waste of any kind (human or animal feces, urine-saturated materials, hypodermic needles, active mold colonies, pest infestation, asbestos-containing materials), structural demolition, mold remediation, or pest extermination. These need a licensed remediation company first — we are happy to recommend one and schedule our work after the remediation is signed off.
The same flat-rate truckload tiers as every UJR job.
Hoarder cleanouts use Utica Junk Removal's standard volume-based pricing — the same tiers posted on the homepage. We don't bill hourly. After a free in-person walkthrough, you get a written flat-rate quote against the load size we expect to haul.
Example volume: a small sofa or loveseat equivalent. Right size for a light single-room cleanout with walkable floors.
Example volume: a full bedroom set (frame, mattress, box spring, dresser). Fits multi-room jobs with manageable clutter.
Example volume: a large dining set and buffet. Most mid-level hoarder cleanouts in Utica fit this tier.
Example volume from our pricing page: a shed full of junk, a basement cleanout, or an attic. Suitable for a heavily packed room or floor.
Two or more full loads scheduled across multiple days. Written walkthrough quote covers crew size, days on site, and donation routing.

Six steps from first call to swept floors.
Hoarder cleanouts are different from ordinary junk removal jobs. The home is emotionally loaded, volume is hard to estimate from the doorway, and there are usually valuables mixed in with the debris. Here is exactly how the job runs.
Where your belongings actually go after pickup.
Most of what comes out of a hoarder home is reusable somewhere. We sort at our yard before final disposal and route material in three directions:
Donation routing
Furniture, clothing, kitchenware, and working appliances in donation-ready condition route to local partners:
- Rescue Mission of Utica
- Salvation Army Utica Citadel
- Local family resource centers
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Recycling
Materials with meaningful recovery value route to specialized streams:
- Appliance bodies, copper, aluminum — Utica scrap metal yard
- Fridges & freezers — EPA-certified refrigerant recovery
- TVs, monitors, computers — certified e-waste recycling
- Paper, cardboard — single-stream recycling
Disposal
Material beyond reuse routes to the transfer station with full disposal documentation available:
- General household debris
- Soiled or damaged textiles
- Treated wood and composite materials
- Written disposal log on request for probate, insurance, or estate files
Five pathways into our crew's calendar.
Hoarder cleanouts in Utica come to us through five common pathways. Each gets a slightly different process.
Adult children clearing a parent's home
The most common scenario. Parent is downsizing or in assisted living, home needs to be cleared for sale. We coordinate with the adult child, work room by room, set aside items the parent wants to review. Discretion is the default — no neighbor conversations.
Social workers and APS coordination
We work regularly with caseworkers when conditions become unsafe and a court or county order is moving the cleanout forward. We follow the caseworker's lead on what stays, what goes, what the homeowner can keep. Net-30 invoicing for county and agency work.
Landlords and tenant turnovers
When a tenant leaves a hoarder situation behind, the unit needs to turn fast and the cost passed through. We invoice the property management company directly, provide before-and-after photo documentation for the security deposit dispute.
Executors, attorneys, listing agents
When the homeowner has passed and the home is being prepared for sale, we work with the executor, the probate attorney, and the listing agent. Written disposal documentation for the probate file. Net-30 invoicing on estate jobs.
Flips and pre-listing prep
Investors and listing agents call us when a purchase contract is contingent on the home being cleared. We work to the closing timeline and have written disposal documentation back to the agent before the listing photos are taken.

The questions everyone calls with.

How much does a hoarder cleanout cost in Utica, NY?
Hoarder cleanouts use the same volume-based flat-rate pricing as our other services. A 1/4 truckload is $325, 1/2 load $400, 3/4 load $475, and a full load is $600. Severe whole-home jobs run multiple loads and are quoted after a free in-person walkthrough. An $85/hour difficulty adder applies if items require disassembly, door removal, or heavy maneuvering.
Is my hoarder cleanout confidential?
Yes. We arrive in unmarked clothing if requested, park unmarked vehicles where possible, and never photograph the inside of a home without written permission. Discretion is the default for every hoarder job — no neighbor conversations, no social media, no exterior signage during the job.
Do you do biohazard cleanup, mold, or animal waste?
No. We handle ordinary household clutter, paper, expired food, dry trash, broken furniture, appliances, and clothing. Biohazard situations — human/animal waste, hypodermic needles, active mold remediation, or pest infestation — need to be cleared by a certified biohazard remediation company before our crew arrives. We can recommend one.
Can family members or social workers be present during the cleanout?
Yes. We regularly coordinate with adult children, court-appointed guardians, Adult Protective Services, social workers, and case managers. We can also work in stages so the homeowner has time to review items before they leave the property.
What if there are valuables, documents, or sentimental items mixed in?
We sort as we go and set aside anything that looks important: cash, jewelry, deeds, photos, military records, sealed mail, and titled documents. Items pulled aside are handed directly to the homeowner or the family contact before we leave. On multi-day jobs, set-aside items are photo-logged and stored in clearly labeled bins.
How long does a hoarder cleanout take?
A light single-room job runs 3 to 5 hours. A multi-room mid-level cleanout typically takes one full day with a 3-person crew. A severe whole-home cleanout may take 2 to 5 days and multiple trailer loads. Every timeline is confirmed during the walkthrough.
Will you donate items that are still usable?
Yes. Furniture, clothing, kitchenware, and working appliances that are clean and sound go to the Rescue Mission of Utica, the Salvation Army, and local family resource centers. Items beyond reuse go to scrap metal recycling or the transfer station.
Do you work with estates and probate attorneys?
Yes. We invoice the estate directly, provide written disposal documentation for the probate file, and coordinate with the attorney, executor, and listing agent. Net-30 invoicing available on estate jobs.
What if the floor is unsafe or the home is structurally compromised?
During the walkthrough we flag any soft floors, blocked egress, or structural concerns. Our crew is insured under commercial general liability, but if a home is condemned or has active structural failure, we may need a licensed contractor to shore the work area before we enter.
Do you handle hoarder cleanouts after a death in the home?
Yes, as long as the home has been cleared by the coroner or a certified biohazard remediation team. We do not handle unattended-death scenes ourselves. Once the biohazard work is signed off, we take the property the rest of the way.
One call. One written price. One closeout.
