What we disassemble and haul on a hot tub removal.
Hot tubs and spas all come apart the same way once they're drained: we cut the shell with a reciprocating saw, separate the side panels from the frame, disconnect the pump assembly, and load every piece onto the trailer. We handle the full unit:
- The shell (acrylic or fiberglass), cut into sections for transport
- The cover and any vinyl cover lifter hardware
- Side panels (wood, composite, or synthetic stone surround)
- Steps (composite, wood, or molded plastic step stools)
- The motor, pump, and heater assembly
- All internal plumbing and jets
- Insulation, foam, and the equipment compartment
- The base frame (pressure-treated wood or steel)
We bring our own sawzall, blades, dollies, and blanket pads. Hot tub jobs typically run 4 to 6 hours with a two-person crew. Yesterday's 9-by-7 four-person tub took the full 6 hours from arrival to a swept deck.
What we do NOT touch on a hot tub removal: any deck the tub was sitting on, any gazebo or pergola above it, any paver patio, any landscaping around it, any electrical conduit or breaker work. The structure stays exactly as it was, minus the tub.

Two things you need to do first.
Hot tub removal is the one service we offer that requires customer prep before we arrive. There are two non-negotiable steps:
Drain the hot tub completely.
Use the drain valve at the bottom of the tub, or a submersible pump if the drain is slow. Most tubs hold 300 to 500 gallons of water. Plan for several hours of drain time and direct the water away from the foundation. We will not start the job with water in the tub. A full hot tub weighs roughly 4,000 to 5,000 pounds and is unsafe to cut or move.
Disconnect the electrical at the breaker.
Hot tubs typically run on a dedicated 240V circuit through a GFCI disconnect mounted on the house or a nearby post. The breaker needs to be flipped off and the disconnect locked or labeled before we arrive. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, please call a licensed electrician first. We do not handle electrical work, and we will not start the job if the tub is still energized.
If both steps are done when we pull up, the rest of the job is on us. If either step is incomplete, we will reschedule the job and may charge a trip fee.

A typical above-ground hot tub removal runs 4 hours for a small tub and 6 hours for a 4-to-6 person tub. We arrive in our marked GMC and Chevrolet trucks, in branded Utica Junk Removal clothing, and we leave with everything in one trip.

We sort the pieces at our yard before final disposal. Most of what comes apart routes through one of three streams:
Scrap metal recycling
The motor, pump, and heater assembly go to a Utica scrap metal yard for recycling. Copper windings, aluminum housings, and stainless hardware all recover scrap value.

We do not deliver hot tubs to second-hand markets. By the time a tub is being removed, it is almost always cut up on-site and beyond reuse. If your tub is intact and functional and you would prefer to sell it before removal, post it on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist first. If it does not sell within your timeline, we are still here to take it apart.

Do I need to drain my hot tub before you arrive?
Yes. The tub must be fully drained before we start cutting. A full hot tub holds 300 to 500 gallons of water and weighs around 4,000 pounds, which is unsafe to disassemble. Use the drain valve at the bottom of the tub, or rent a submersible pump for faster draining.
Do I need to disconnect the electrical myself?
Yes. Flip the breaker off and ensure the disconnect at the tub is in the off position before we arrive. We are not licensed electricians and we do not handle any electrical work. If you are not comfortable doing this, please hire a licensed electrician first.
Do you remove the hot tub cover, steps, and surround?
Yes. The cover, cover lifter hardware, side panels, steps, and any built-in surround that is part of the hot tub assembly all leave with us. The price is one flat-rate that covers everything attached to or sitting on the tub.
Do you take the deck or gazebo too?
No. Hot tub removal is the hot tub itself. We do not demolish decks, dismantle gazebos, or remove paver pads. If you need the deck or gazebo gone too, that is a separate residential demolition quote.
How long does it take to remove a hot tub?
A small tub typically takes 4 hours from arrival to a swept pad. A 4-to-6 person tub typically takes 6 hours. Both numbers assume the tub is drained and the power is off when we arrive.
Do you cut the hot tub apart on-site?
Yes. Above-ground hot tubs are cut into sections with a reciprocating saw on-site so they can fit on our trailer. We cut from the top down, working in sections to keep the structure stable until the end of the job.
Can you remove a hot tub from inside a basement or sunroom?
We can. Indoor hot tubs add complexity because we have to work in a confined space and protect the surrounding flooring and walls. Indoor removals require a photo quote. Call 315-509-3762 or email a photo to info@junkremovaluticany.com so we can plan the cut path and confirm clearance.
Will you take a hot tub that has been outside for years and stopped working?
Yes. Non-functional, weather-damaged, and abandoned hot tubs are normal for us. Condition does not change the price. Drainage may be different on a long-abandoned tub. Call us before you start so we can advise on the safest way to remove the residual water.
Do you scrap the hot tub motor and recycle the metal?
Yes. The motor, pump, heater assembly, and any aluminum or stainless hardware go to a Utica scrap metal yard for recycling. The acrylic shell goes to the transfer station because there is no acrylic recycling stream in our local market.
Can you remove an inground spa or built-in hot tub?
