Mattresses, Box Springs, and Bed Frames We Haul

Utica Junk Removal K-Trail trailer loaded with multiple mattresses during a multi-bed haul in Utica, NY

If it came with a bedroom, we can probably take it. The most common mattress removals we handle in Utica are:

  • Twin and twin XL mattresses (kids’ rooms, guest rooms, college dorms)
  • Full / double mattresses
  • Queen mattresses (single most common pickup size in our market)
  • King and California king mattresses (require two crew, no upcharge)
  • Crib and toddler mattresses
  • RV and camper mattresses (custom sizes accepted)
  • Box springs and split box springs (full size or split for stairwell access)
  • Bed frames: wood, metal, platform, adjustable bases, storage frames with drawers
  • Headboards and footboards: wood, upholstered, metal
  • Bunk beds and loft beds (we disassemble on-site if needed)
  • Sleeper sofas and futon mattresses
  • Air mattresses (deflated only, please)
  • Adjustable bed bases (electric, including those with massage or USB features)

Frames are included in the single-item $200 price when they are part of the same job. We bring blanket pads and door-jamb protectors on every mattress pickup so the walls and door frames stay scuff-free on the way out.

Mattress Removal Pricing in Utica

Utica Junk Removal K-Trail trailer loaded with a mattress, dressers, and chairs after a Chadwicks, NY pickup

Mattress removal pricing at Utica Junk Removal is flat-rate, posted upfront, and the same structure we use for every job. No hourly billing, no stair fees, no surprise add-ons.

Scenario Price What it covers
Single bed pickup $200 One mattress + box spring + frame, any size up to king
Two beds $300 total ($150 each) Volume discount kicks in at two complete bed sets
Three or more mattresses, or hotel/AirBnB/dorm batch $325 to $475 Falls into our standard load pricing (1/4 to 3/4 load)
Full-home mattress clearance (4+ mattresses across multiple rooms) $475 to $600 One full load
Mattress only (no box spring or frame) Same $200 Single-item flat rate; we do not discount for partial sets

Three or more mattresses usually favors the load price. Four queen mattresses at $150 each would be $600. The same four mattresses priced as a 3/4 load is $475. We default to the cheaper number, every time.

For a firm quote, text us a photo to 315-509-3762 and we will respond in writing within an hour during business hours. Full load pricing across every junk removal service is on the Utica Junk Removal pricing page.

Bed Bug Policy: What We Cannot Accept

We do not take any bed-bug-infested mattresses, box springs, frames, or other furniture. No exceptions.

This is the most important honesty section on the page, so we want to be direct about it. Bed bugs travel home in the truck, infest our other customers, and we cannot risk that. If we suspect bed bugs on arrival, we will decline the job at the door and we will not charge you a trip fee for that decline.

What to do if you have a bed-bug-infested mattress:

  1. Call a licensed pest control company first. Have the unit treated or confirmed treated before pickup. Most professional exterminators in the Utica area can provide a certificate of treatment.
  2. Bag and seal the mattress before moving it. Heavy-duty mattress encasement bags are available at Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Amazon for under $20.
  3. Local disposal options for bagged bed-bug mattresses: Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority accepts properly bagged treated mattresses at the transfer station as part of a separate haul-out (call OHSWA directly for current rates and bagging requirements).
  4. After successful treatment, we are happy to take the unit on a regular pickup. Just tell us when you call so we can ask the right questions.

We do not take mattresses that have visible bed bug fecal staining, live bug sightings during walkthrough, or that came out of a known infested room within the past 6 months without documented treatment. Same standard applies to box springs and upholstered frames.

For non-bed-bug stained or soiled mattresses (urine, water damage, mold), we will quote on a case-by-case basis but most are still acceptable as long as they are dry at pickup.

We Pull From Anywhere: Basement, Second Floor, Dorm

Stairs do not change the price. The most common difficult mattress pulls we run are:

  • Second-floor master bedrooms: carrying a king mattress down a switchback staircase without scuffing the wall
  • Basement guest rooms: narrow stairwells, tight 90 or 180-degree turns at the landing
  • Apartments with no elevator: third-floor walk-ups with a queen mattress
  • College dorm rooms: Utica University, MVCC, SUNY Poly residence halls (end-of-semester mattress swaps)
  • AirBnB and short-term rental turnovers: hosts replacing mattresses between guest stays
  • Hotel and motel rooms: mid-renovation mattress swaps (call us about volume pricing on these)
  • Mobile homes: narrow doorways, soft floors, careful weight distribution

We bring a four-wheel furniture dolly, mattress slings, blanket pads, and door-jamb protectors on every pickup. King and California king mattresses are usually two-person carries; queens and below are typically a one-person carry with a sling. If a mattress will not bend around a tight stairwell turn, we will tell you before we start so you can decide whether to disassemble or pull from a window.

What Happens to Your Old Mattress

A used mattress is not just trash. Every unit follows one of three routes, in priority order:

  1. Donation. If the mattress is in good condition (clean, structurally intact, less than 10 years old, no stains or odors) and a partner is currently accepting, it goes there first. Active partners in the Utica area include the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and occasional refugee resettlement coordinators when families are setting up homes. We do not push donation when it is not appropriate; most used mattresses do not qualify for donation, and we are honest about that on-site.
  2. Recycling at the transfer station. Non-donatable mattresses route to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority transfer station. About 80% of an average innerspring mattress (steel coils, wood frame, foam) is recoverable as recycling stream material at the OHSWA facility.
  3. Landfill. This is the last resort and the smallest share by volume. Used as last-resort routing only when neither donation nor recycling is feasible.

When NYS rolls out the statewide Mattress Recycling Council program more broadly in our area, we will route through that program as the recycling step. Until then, OHSWA is the local equivalent.

Multi-Mattress Pickups for Hotels, AirBnBs, and Dorms

Hotel and motel operators, AirBnB hosts, college residence halls, and short-term rental property managers can all use the same flat-rate load pricing for batch mattress swaps. If you are replacing 5 to 20 mattresses at once, the math favors a single half-load or full-load pickup over individual single-item pricing.

  • 5 to 8 mattresses: typically 1/2 to 3/4 load, $400 to $475
  • 9 to 14 mattresses: typically full load, $600
  • 15 to 20 mattresses: typically 1.5 to 2 loads, $900 to $1,200
  • 20+ mattresses (full hotel floor or multi-property swap): custom quote, contact us for site walk

We coordinate the timing around your turnover schedule (between guest stays, between semesters, between renovations) so the truck is on-site when the rooms are clear and gone before the next check-in. Hotels, motels, property management companies, and college facilities offices are welcome to set up net-30 invoicing on first contact. Call 315-509-3762 or email info@junkremovaluticany.com to set up a batch pickup.

How Mattress Pickup Works

The process is short on purpose. Most mattress pickups are scheduled the same day or next day.

  1. Call, text, or book online. Send a photo of the mattress if you have one. It speeds up the quote and helps us confirm bed bug status.
  2. Get a flat-rate quote. Within an hour during business hours. Single bed, two beds, or load-priced for three or more.
  3. Schedule a window. Same-day if we have a slot, otherwise 24 to 48 hours out for most jobs.
  4. We arrive in the window. Walk through, confirm the quote in writing, get a yes before we move anything.
  5. You point, we haul. Crew handles the carry-out, the loading, and the cleanup of any debris from the room.
  6. Pay on completion. Cash, card, Venmo, Apple Pay, or invoice for commercial accounts.

For a single mattress from a ground-floor bedroom, the whole pickup typically takes 15 minutes on-site. A full bedroom set (mattress + box spring + frame) from a second-floor bedroom usually runs 25 to 40 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mattress Removal

How much does mattress removal cost in Utica, NY?
A single bed pickup in Utica costs $200, which covers the full bed set (mattress, box spring, and frame). Two beds drop to $150 each ($300 total). Three or more mattresses or a hotel / AirBnB / dorm batch falls into our flat-rate load pricing, $325 to $475. We quote in writing before we start and the number does not change once it is confirmed.

Will you take a mattress with bed bugs?
No. We do not take any bed-bug-infested mattresses, box springs, frames, or other furniture. No exceptions. If we suspect bed bugs on arrival, we will decline the job at the door and not charge a trip fee. We recommend calling a licensed pest control company first, then bagging the unit and either disposing through Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority or calling us back after documented treatment.

Will you take a stained or wet mattress?
For non-bed-bug stains (urine, water damage, mold, pet stains), we will quote on a case-by-case basis. Most are still acceptable as long as the unit is dry at pickup. Soaking-wet or actively moldy mattresses we will discuss before booking. Bed bug staining is an automatic decline.

Do you take the box spring and frame too?
Yes. The single-item $200 price covers the mattress, box spring, and frame as one bed set. Bed frames (wood, metal, platform, or adjustable bases), headboards, and footboards are all included when they are part of the same job.

Can you remove a mattress from a basement or upstairs?
Yes, and it does not change the price. We bring mattress slings, blanket pads, and door-jamb protectors on every pickup. We have hauled queen and king mattresses out of finished basements with tight stairwell turns, second-floor master bedrooms with switchback stairs, and third-floor apartments with no elevator. Stairs are part of the job.

What if my mattress is too big to fit in the truck or trailer?
We bring a full-size trailer that handles up to king and California king mattresses without folding. Memory foam mattresses can be folded for transport if needed, but innerspring mattresses we keep flat to protect the box spring. If you have a custom-size or oversized unit (some adjustable bases, certain RV mattresses, hospital beds), call 315-509-3762 with the dimensions and we will confirm fit before scheduling.

Will the mattress be recycled or sent to landfill?
Recycling and donation come first. Mattresses in good condition route to donation partners (Salvation Army, Habitat ReStore). Non-donatable mattresses go to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority transfer station, which recovers approximately 80% of an average innerspring mattress as recycling stream material (steel coils, wood frame, foam). Landfill is the last resort and the smallest share by volume.

Do you offer free mattress removal?
No, and anyone advertising free mattress removal in Utica is either reselling working units in violation of public health code (used mattress resale is restricted in New York state), reselling your contact info, or dumping illegally. The $200 single-item price covers labor, transportation, the disposal fee at the transfer station, and the bed bug walkthrough.

Can I leave the mattress outside for pickup?
Yes. If you have already moved the mattress to the driveway, curb, or garage, we will grab it from there. We do appreciate a heads-up so the crew knows to look outside first. Curbside pickup does not change the price.

Do you pick up multiple mattresses at once (hotel, AirBnB, dorm)?
Yes. Hotel and motel operators, AirBnB hosts, college residence halls, and short-term rental managers can use load pricing for batch swaps. 5 to 8 mattresses typically runs $400 to $475. 9 to 14 mattresses typically runs $600. 15 to 20 mattresses runs $900 to $1,200. Net-30 invoicing is available for commercial accounts. Call 315-509-3762 for a site walk on jobs over 20 units.

How quickly can you pick up my mattress?
Same day if we have a slot, which is most weekdays. Otherwise 24 to 48 hours out. We are open 7 AM to 7 PM, 7 days a week. The fastest way to lock in same-day is to call 315-509-3762 between 7 AM and 10 AM.
